1974
Richard in his home town of Seneca Falls, 1974. On July 19-20, 1848, the Seneca Falls convention gave birth to the Women’s Rights movement.
1975
Richard at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and Watkins Glen, New York. Richard particularly enjoyed his classes in Architecture and Art History. Watkins Glen, a short drive from Seneca Falls, was the home of several wineries and scenic views of upstate New York.
1976
Richard with family and friends in Seneca Falls, New York, Washington, D.C., and Annapolis, Maryland. Washington, D.C. became Richard’s second home when he interned at Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill.
1977
Photos of Richard from Washington, D.C., New York, and New Haven, Connecticut. Throughout his life, Richard would return to all three cities, making them some of his favorite places to visit friends and family, and celebrate holidays.
1978
Photos of Richard from New Haven, Connecticut. 1978 marked an important milestone in Richard’s life, completing his undergraduate degree with a focus in Architecture at Yale University.
1979 – 1983
Richard in New York from 1979 through 1983. New York was an important site of professional and person growth for Richard.
1992 – 2012
Photos of Richard from New Haven, Connecticut, Provincetown, MA, and New York City. In 1993, Richard met future husband Angel David Nieves at Syracuse University. They began dating in 1994. These pictures show how much they enjoyed being on the road together and sharing good times with friends.
2013 – 2023
Photos of Richard from Upstate New York, New Haven, Connecticut, San Diego and Palm Springs, California, and Provincetown, Brookline, and Boston, Massachusetts. This ten-year period proved to be the most professionally productive period in Richard’s life, often collaborating with David on various projects. San Diego was by far their most favorite home away from home.
